Good News!!
Many years ago, while they were ministers in the US, both Rev. Martha and Rev. Tammy had their ordinations revoked by their ordaining denomination. This happened when they came out as gay, and the denomination did not allow for gay clergy.
In the years following, Rev. Tammy was able to get her ordination reinstated within her governing body, but this was not a possibiliity for Rev. Martha. In due time, they arrived in Canada, and Rev. Tammy continued her ministry within the United Church of Canada, while Rev. Martha was not able to do so.
However, in recent years the governing body that had revoked Rev. Martha's ordination has seen a major shift, and they are now very affirming. As Rev. Martha pursued her desire to obtain credentials within the United Church of Canada, her former denomination invited the two of them back to Kansas City for a formal opportunity to reinstate Rev. Martha's ordination. This happened very recently, and now we are so happy to announce that Martha Juillerat is again the Rev. Martha Juillerat.
This means that within the next few days she will hold credentials as an Ordained Supply Minister within a United Church of Canada Community of Faith..
As a congregation, we are happy to say that this enables us to appoint both of them to two-year positions as part-time ministers in our Esquimalt Community of Faith. (This doesn't mean that they are limited to two years, just that that is the length of this appointment.)
Congratulations!!
